Par la présente, la Fondation pour l'Autodétermination au Sahara Occidental exprime son indignation et son inquiétude sur les pratiques anti-démocratiques de l'ambassade Marocain aux Pays-Bas, qui a essayé (d'ailleurs en vain) de saboter un débat publique sur la question du Sahara Occidental, jeudi le 15 avril.
La seconde personne de l'ambassade s'est permis de faire pression sur l'Institut Royal des Tropiques (KIT) d'Amsterdam, où allait se dérouler le débat. Celle-ci a exigé de la direction de l'Institut non seulement l'annulation du débat et de la présentation précédente de livre, mais a également protesté (sic) contre le titre du livre (intitulé : " La dernière colonie de l'Afrique ; voyages à travers le Sahara Occidental "), contre le titre du débat (" Le plus grand tabou du Maroc ") et contre la participation à la soirée du journaliste marocain Ali Lmrabet. Celui-ci avait été emprisonné pour ses articles critiques de la monarchie marocaine et de la politique marocaine en ce qui concerne le Sahara Occidental.
En plus, par la voix d'un membre du conseil d'un des arrondissements de la commune d'Amsterdam, personne d'origine marocaine, l'Institut avait été averti que si le débat n'était pas annulé, deux mille marocains y viendraient jeter des pierres.
Ces informations avait été rendues publiques le jour suivant par des sources concernées, qui étaient pourtant priées par l'Institut de rectifier leur première lecture des évènements.
La Fondation estime inacceptable que l'ambassade marocaine se mêle à l'exercice du droit de libre expression, même aux Pays-Bas. Le comportement de l'ambassade témoigne de ce que le Maroc va très loin dans son entreprise de dissimuler l'illégalité de son occupation du Sahara Occidental et la violation du droit international. Elle oeuvre non seulement pour intimider la communauté marocaine ainsi que sahraouie aux Pays-Bas, mais également essaie de les pousser à des menaces contre des institutions néerlandaises dans l'intention d' empêcher la tenue d'un débat publique ouvert et large.

By the present, the Foundation for Self-determination of Western
Sahara expresses its indignation and its concern about the
undemocratic practices of the Marocain embassy in the Netherlands,
which tried (however in vain) to sabotage a public debate on the
question of the Western Sahara, on Thursday April 15.
The second ranked functionary of the embassy allowed himself to make pressure on the Royal Institute of the Tropics (KIT) of Amsterdam, where was going to be held the debate. This person demanded from the direction of the Institute not only the cancellation of the debate and the preceding presentation of a book about the Sahara, but also protested (sic) against the title of the book (entitled: "The last colony of Africa; voyages through Western Sahara"), against the title of the debate ("The greatest taboo of Morocco") and against the participation in the debate of the Moroccan journalist Ali Lmrabet. Ali Lmrabet had been imprisoned for its critical articles on the Moroccan monarchy and the Moroccan policy with regard to Western sSahara.
Moreover, by the voice of a member of the council of one of the districts of the municipality of Amsterdam, someone of Moroccan origin, the Institute had been informed that if the debate were not cancelled, two thousand Morrocans would come there to throw stones.
This information had been made public on Friday 16th of April, by sources concerned, which were however requested by the Institute to rectify their first reading of the events.
The Foundation estimates unacceptable that the Moroccan embassy interferes in the exercise of the right of free expression, even in the Netherlands. The behavior of the embassy shows that Morocco goes very far in its enterprise to dissimulate the illegality of its occupation of Western Sahara and the violation of the international law. It is not only engaged in intimidating the Moroccan - and Sahrawi - communities in the Netherlands, but also presses them to threaten Dutch institutions with the intention to prevent an open and honest public debate.
